I have managed a number of projects, both large- and small-scale throughout my career. These projects often require funding from external agencies. I can help clients to create winning project proposals that will ensure success.

Once we pass through the idea and funding stage, we move on to the real nitty-gritty of project coordination and management. This includes:

budget prep and management
hiring of additional contractors/staff
public relations and marketing
communications around the project
completion of resources or program development
reporting and presentation

Project Management

Consulting

My background is heavily focused on agriculture and, specifically, applied ethology (animal welfare and behaviour).

In a time where farmers are being continually asked to change practices or make improvements on their farms for the benefit of animal welfare, I am uniquely placed to provide helpful input and value.

In Canada, the reliance on the Codes of Practice (www.nfacc.ca) continues to grow. I have a thorough understanding of what is needed on-farm to implement and adequately follow the requirements set out in the Codes. I can help the agricultural industry to get to where they need to be and can help the individual farmer excel within his/her farming business by implementing these changes efficiently and effectively.

Grant Writing

Many service providers and nonprofit organizations conduct projects or business through monetary grants. I have extensive experience and success with grant writing and am able to offer my expertise to help clients with this time consuming task.

In addition to successful scholarship and project grants throughout my educational career, I have successfully written numerous applications for both private and public funding agencies.

Finally, I have taken a number of continuing education-style courses on honing my grant writing skills, storytelling, and how to make your application stand out from the pack.

Communications

In this day and age, social media reigns. I have extensive knowledge of social media channels and can help individuals, businesses, and organizations to excel in their communications needs.

I am able to communicate effectively, clearly, creatively, and with integrity - something that is often lacking in today's corporate communications.

I can help clients with various communication needs including social media, branding strategies, annual reports, and social media in general.

Most importantly, I believe in generating trust among your clients, customers, and the public in general. This can only be done through transparent communications and open, honest, two-way dialogue.

Writing / Editing

I have always enjoyed writing. As a child I used to write short stories and poetry, even winning a number of awards!

Later in life, through University and Graduate School, my writing became more technical and scientific.

At present, I have further developed my writing to a point where I can translate technical speech and written works into user-friendly, laymen terms for the reader lacking technical background. This is a skill that many do not possess, least of all the average scientist - whom is brilliant in a scientific, technical setting, but often lacks ability to translate their work into easy, more practical terms.

I have the ability to marry any of these styles - creative, technical, and user-oriented.

Event Coordination

Through my previous interests, hobbies, and work, I have coordinated many, many events. This started from the time I was in my teens coordinating music events in Red Deer, Alberta, and has carried on into adulthood as I coordinated school, graduate school, and work events.

I am able to handle both small (20 people or less) and large (200+ attendees) events. To date I have coordinated family events (weddings, reunions), project and annual general meetings, training workshops, and conferences.

Nowadays, regardless of which sector you are in, and whether we like it or not, the public wants confirmation that farmers are doing what they say they're doing.

I have been working in animal welfare assessment for a number of years and currently do contract inspections for a variety of companies and organizations.

In the last couple years, I have also taken on organic inspection.

I endeavour to make each inspection pleasant, even if there are concerns or problems found. And I will strive to help you to understand the standard and where you may need to improve.

If your inspections are completed by an organization, and there are some non-compliance issues, I am also available for coaching to get your operation up to par.
